Mr. Risley
I have spoken to you about this.
The suggestion of the B. of T. for the further
amendment of clause section 41 of the Prin ic pal
Ord. is open to the objection that the proposed
amending Ord. will repeal by anticipation pro-
visions of otf of Farliament not yet enacted.
The better course will appearently be to insert
after

agree with this, I understand.
We had better propose this to B. of T. be fore
writing to Colony.

Sir,
27th August, 1909.
Gov
With reference to your letter No.21398 of the 8th
ultimo forwarding a despatch from the Governor of long Kong respecting an Ordinance further to amend the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1899, I am directed by the Board of
Trade to state, for the information of the Earl of Crewe,
that they do not desire to offer any observations respect- ing this Ordinance, but they would call attention to mis- prints in Sections 8 (3) ("he" instead of "be") and 9, line
1 (" Ordinances" instead of "Ordinance"), and they would
also point out that the words inserted in line 5 of clauze 41 of the principal Ordinance, by virtue of clause 14 of the Ordinance now under discussion, might with advantage
have been inserted in line 2 of the same clause of the
principal Ordinance.
The original enclosures to your letter are forwarded herewith as requested, but the Board would be glad if one copy of the Ordinance could be returned to this Depart- mentfor purposes of record.
The Under Secretary of State,
Colonial Office.
I have the honour to be,
Sir,
Your obedient Servant,
wlty. Hole
